OK, so i never thought my feet would ache soo much, just finished my 1st day at my new placement and i didn't do much sitting down at all... People seem quite nice and so far i am enjoying it, hopefully things will go smoothly this week.
Going to probably be doing Nutrition, Injection technique and infection control 1 in this placement all being well. Tomorrow i am going to take my black trainers with me so i can at least rotate my footwear, or i think i will have to cut them off as i can hardly feel them anyway!!
Its much faster paced than my last placement in the mental health ward and i have being doing loads of obs, bed making, paperwork, watching infusions etc..
So now to rest as i am back there again at 7:30am in the morning....eeeesh...
I have started my 2nd year of being student mental health nurse; studying for an advanced diploma, whilst plodding along this thing called life... Posts may come in the form of student life, moaning, reflection or just plain crap talk... Hope you enjoy the ride with me..

Clinical skills exams and New placement
Well, Tomorrow i start my new placement. its a Planned Treatment and Investigation unit, I am nervous and excited. it is only for 4 weeks and i have to work out which 3 skills i am going to do on it, fingers crossed i can get them al done and i have a nice mentor.
I think my last placement i was very lucky to have every thing go so smoothly and work with nice people etc. So fingers crossed this one is equally as nice or i am in for a shock.
When i went back to uni after my previous placement it was a little weird, i was happy to see everyone and get back into the swing of uni again, we had out clinical skills exams coming up and it was all revise revise revise, and as i have never revised for anything in my life it was so hard and i spent at least 6 hrs a day sometimes reading and stuff to get me up to scratch.
I had 2 separate exams one last week and the other the week before, the first was a scenario on congestive heart failure and we as a group (there were 3 of us in our group) had to perform a skill related to this scenario and then answer lots of questions from the examiners my skill was to perform drug administration, i did quite well, performed my skill only made 1 mistake as far as i know and answered all but one question correct, the second exam was on asthma, my skill for that was to take the temperature, i also performed that great, i didnt feel nervous for either exam apart from minor butterflies briefly. I also only got 1/2 questions wrong. So i feel pretty confident i got a fairly good mark, although until i get them you never know. fingers crossed!!!
So now i am back on placement and i have my uniform all ironed and i start at 7:45am and i finish at 8:15pm,i wont get to see my little girl at all tomorrow so i will have to sneak into her room when i get home and kiss her beautiful face. Lets hope my feet are not killing me too much when i finish.
Will let you know how the placement goes on my first day off.
PS its my 33rd birthday today, just thought i would share that...
Wish me luck...
